Summer Solstice Celebration
Every year on the first evening of summer, Grasse River Heritage invites the community to celebrate the solstice in Heritage Park. This is one of our major fundraising events of the year, and it helps to cover a significant chunk of our budget.
But it’s more than just a fundraiser—it’s a neighborhood party. Lots of non-profit organizations raise money through charity dinners in expensive restaurants, and it’s important that these be supported. We tried something like that too. But we concluded that our particular mission and connection to the community called for a different approach.
Our Summer Solstice Celebration is, a low-cost family-friendly affair, with admission free and open to the public we serve. It takes place in Heritage Park, in the very surroundings it is intended to benefit. It features music, dancing, tours of the park, games for children, informal demonstrations related to the river and the site and the time of year, displays of local creative arts, good things to eat and drink, and more. It’s a heck of a party and one of the highlights of our yearly calendar.
Please watch for it and join us. We hope to see you there.
Remembrance Panel
Some of our neighbors, over the years, have chosen to add a plaque to one of the park benches or other structures in Heritage Park to honor a loved one or a group. They have done so by way of a special donation to Grasse River Heritage. In response, we have recently installed a handsome Remembrance Panel to provide a further opportunity for such memorials.
The Remembrance Panel is located on the west side of Falls Island, in a tree-covered, trailside location where the river flows just beyond. Here, in this serene setting, you can affix a perpetual plaque with a message of remembrance or appreciation of an individual or group, expressed in your own words.
Please contact us if you would like to know more about this opportunity.
