Community Room/Calendar
Grasse River Heritage maintains a Community Room at 30 Court Street in Canton, which serves many purposes. It provides office and working space as well as meeting space for our Board of Directors and our several committees and their activities. It also provides gallery space for display of our collection of historic photographs of Canton residents at work and play on the Grasse River, dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
But it functions as a community room in an important larger sense as well. We make it available without charge to a variety of other local non-profit groups who have need of meeting or event space of their own. A partial list of groups who have benefited includes the St. Lawrence Land Trust, the Indian Creek Nature Center, the Canton Community Fund, the Canton Church & Community Program, GardenShare, Canton Canoe Weekend, Potsdam Neighborhood Center, Friends of the Animal Sanctuary, St. Lawrence County Health Initiative, and St. Lawrence County foster-parent training. This same room also serves as the St. Lawrence County headquarters of the Northern New York Community Foundation.
In this way, we both turn this valuable resource to fuller advantage and give back, by supporting the work of these groups, to the community that has supported Grasse River Heritage so generously over the years.
